Second graders learn basic singing and voice technique, music theory, and music history. Students learn about major classical composers as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, and Handel. Second graders learn how to play the recorder while learning the music alphabet, how to read music, and basic rhythm. Recorders are accompanied by an electric keyboard to help students hold the rhythm and understand the important part of the melody. We spend time in the months of October and November preparing for our performance at “Christmas In Davidson”, an annual kickoff to the holiday season.
In January, second graders begin choreographing movements for a selected song to be performed at Night of the Arts, our spring music performance. We also perform several songs as a second and third grade chorus.
