Third graders learn how to play the recorder while learning the music alphabet, how to read music, and basic rhythm. Recorders are accompanied by an electric keyboard to help students hold the rhythm and understand the important part of the melody. We sing many songs, accompanied by Orff instruments (tambourine, morocco, wood sticks…).
In music history classes, we learn about the composers from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic period (Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninof). Students spend several weeks preparing for their musical performance at "Christmas in Davidson", an annual kickoff to the holiday season.
