Fourth graders are provided with meaningful, context-rich and enjoyable opportunities to hear and use Spanish. They build a basic vocabulary around categories, which include alphabet, colors, numbers, opposites, family, body parts, directions, days, months, seasons, weather, time, school, food, house, animals, clothing, places, and occupations.  Students learn key phrases and commands.  They also learn how to ask and answer basic questions related to each unit. Students become familiar with cognates (similar words English/Spanish).  Fourth graders are introduced to basic grammar, including masculine/feminine, main verbs, and personal pronouns. They begin to use basic conversational greetings, commands, and polite phrases.

There is a focus on the importance of the Spanish language and culture at this grade level.

The learning process is reinforced through songs, games, visuals, role play, and repetition. Home reinforcement is welcomed and suggested through the playing of interactive, online games.  The links are be posted on the class page.
