Fifth graders test their creative skills as choreographers. Our major project is to choreograph and dance to the song “Roll over Beethoven”. Students learn how to dance rock-and-roll steps. They assist in the choreography by using their imagination to create movements for a five minute song performance. Choreography literally means "dance-writing". Students take ownership of the dance as they feel the rhythm and work as a team. Fifth graders perform their dance for parents at the end of the year Spring Musical Performance.
In addition to dancing, fifth graders focus on music history. They study the differences between music-art periods and major composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, and Chopin.
