In Spanish students discover who speaks Spanish in the world through an overview of the Spanish-speaking regions and studyting the geography of Latin America. The Golden Age (of Spain) is examined, which leads into a unit of the man behind the legend - Don Quixote de la Mancha. Students also explore the cultural aspects of Hispanic society through food, family and celebration (like, Day of the Dead).

Students learn to appreciate a culture outside of their own through the study of Hispanic Heritage Month and a project which focuses on a specific Latin American country. In grammar, students learn how to conjugate verbs and the basics of grammar including article/noun/adjective agreement.

Text: Navegando 1A is an introduction text that aids in the grammar lessons. This text and course are considered Part I of Spanish I.

Questions to consider:

  • Who speaks Spanish in the world?
  • Where can the Spanish-speaking populations be found?
  • What are the major contributions from the Hispanic society?
  • Why is Spanish important in our society today?

By the end of 6th grade Spanish, students must be able to: conjugate a verb and demonstrate an understanding of pronoun/verb, article/noun and noun/adjective agreement; as well as write in complete sentences.
