Checklist

In Spanish this year, students focus on "the places" of Latin America and take an in-depth look at four Spanish-speaking countries. The regional culture, society and history are discussed as well as discovering what makes each one unique. Students complete a ‘mini-project’ along with each country surveyed. Students also complete more in-depth projects where they create travel guides, menus, weather forecasts, and house floor plans in Spanish.

In grammar, students learn to conjugate all irregular and stem-changing verbs in the present tense. Through in-class discussions, students will gain insight to many other perspectives outside their own as they learn to converse about daily things in life, such as pastimes, food, and housing.

Text: Navegando 1B is a continuation text which is used to aid in the application of grammar. It is considered Part 2 of Spanish I.

Questions to consider:

  • How does Latin America differ from one region to another? How does the food and clothing differ as well?
  • How do the people differ from one region to another?
  • What are some typical characteristics of Latin America? And, how do we distinguish those characteristics from stereotypes?

By the end of 7th grade Spanish, students must be able to: conjugate stem-changing verbs, use the present progressive, discuss their likes and dislikes while conversing in more detail and expressing information efficiently.
