Course Objectives:

To enrich understanding and knowledge of American History through a variety of texts, documents and media so it enhances lifelong learning.

To gain skills in processing, interpreting and analyzing historical information.

To communicate effectively what has been learned.

 

Materials:

American History Notebook  (Must be a plain 2 pocket folder)

Lined paper

Blue or black pen and pencil

Laptop (if available) or USB Drive

 

Assessment:

Notebook:  A notebook of classwork and homework will be collected Friday and returned Monday.  This weekly notebook is graded on content and organization.  Assessment will be by rubric.  You are responsible for checking the class page daily for proper order of assignments.  Due to the high volume of material and topics these assignments may change slightly.  Keep checking each day.  If for some reason our class does not meet Friday, the notebook is due Monday.

Projects:  Projects will be assessed using a specific rubric and point values will vary based on length and involvement.

Quizzes/Tests:  Quizzes will be announced 2 days in advance.  Tests will be announced one week in advance.  Students who miss a test due to an unexcused absence will make up the test on the day they return.  Students who miss a test due to an excused absence will make up the test up to 2 days after they return.

Class Participation:  Participation in class in required. This means being prepared, on task and respectful to all.

 

Absentee Procedure:

Always check the Class Page to see what you missed and then check the folder in the classroom for a copy of any missed handouts, maps, etc..  Complete these assignments and include them in your notebook on Friday.  If you are absent on a Friday, your notebook is due Tuesday.

 

Late Work:  Late notebooks are not accepted.  Projects will be docked 10% for each day late.  Students who fail to make up tests within the specified amounts of time will lose 10% per day.
