7th Grade End-of-Year Checklist (for rising 8th graders)

Level: Part II of Spanish I

 

 

Vocabulary Topics Covered:

Household items pertaining to Kitchen & Dining room

Parts & Rooms of the House  

Chores

Sports & Pastimes

Food – all foods from each category

Clothing

Prepositions

 

 

 

Grammar: This section is in addition to the previous year’s checklist.

All stem-changing verbs (spelling changes within the root of the verb that does not affect conjugation of the verb)

The verb Gustar and others that work like it (requires an Indirect Object Pronoun)

Present Progressive – creating –ING to a verb

The verb Tener + Tener expressions (i.e. Tengo calor = I’m hot.)

3 grammatical equations:  Tener que + infinitive

                   Ir a + infinitive

                  Acabar de + infinitive

Por vs. Para

Double negatives are briefly reviewed.

 

 

 

Overall Skills:

Translation of simple sentences into ‘good’ Spanish and not verbatim following English grammatical structures.

Able to recognize and label all Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America + Spain & Equatorial Guinea on a map.

 

 

 

*NOTE to New Students of Spanish:  Trying to cover ALL of this is not absolutely necessary.  Building a vocabulary foundation in a foreign language takes time, practice,

and most importantly –maintenance. The most essential skill from the 7th Grade level is learning how stem-changing verbs work.
