Year Highlights 2005-06

Academic

  • 6 seventh grade students awarded state recognition for their outstanding score on the SAT college entrance exam as part of the Duke University TIP program
  • Represented by 8 students at regional National History Day competition; one student advanced to national finals
  • Represented in regional Spelling Bee and state Geography Bee
  • 6th grade and 7/8th grade teams placed first in NC Knowledge Master Open; 5th grade team placed second
  • Middle school math team placed 7th in regional MathCounts contest

Extra-Curricular

  • Boys cross country team won CIM conference title for third consecutive year; girls team won their first title
  • Fielded teams in girls basketball and tennis for the first time
  • Chess team formed with 10 students participating
  • Formed first cheerleading squad and drum corps with 16 students participating
  • Published The Mighty Oak, student yearbook, for 3rd year (along with 65-minute DVD)
  • Published The Lamplighter, student newspaper, three times during the year
  • Released 3 episodes of first podcast, Greencast, on iTunes Music Store and our website.

Service

  • Lower school students continued service projects with The Haven (Alzheimer patients' residence) and Plaza Road Elementary School in Charlotte
  • Middle School students volunteered for the Humane Society, Raptor Center, Crisis Ministeries, and Brian Senior Center
  • Raised $1000 for Hurricane Katrina relief along with The Summitt Coffee Shop
  • Raised $2000 for Habitat for Humanity at Christmas in Davidson Chili Dinner

  • 2nd annual Fall Festival in October
  • Spring Fling in May
  • Parent Dinner and Auction in November
